National VTMS Vessel Survey and Feasibility Study
2026
Comprehensive national coverage across all four of Tanzania's water bodies
Sub-Sahara Institute was commissioned by the Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation to design and deliver a structured vessel survey in support of a national Vessel Traffic Management System feasibility study.
The survey achieved comprehensive national coverage across all four of Tanzania's water bodies, namely Lake Victoria, Lake Tanganyika, Lake Nyasa and the Indian Ocean coast. It was delivered by a multidisciplinary team of key experts and trained field enumerators who collected the data offline and verified every record by GPS.
Throughout the assignment we applied rigorous quality controls so that the resulting dataset was clean, complete and fit for national feasibility analysis. The engagement reflects the strength of the Institute in large scale field research, survey management and monitoring and evaluation.
